Treatment of Special Diseases


Cold: This seems to be a very innocuous disease, but so far no foolproof treatment is available against it. Most of the therapies offer no solace to suffer of cold. If one feels that he is going to get cold, he should sit for fifteen minutes with his legs in hot water before going to sleep. It shall prevent his getting cold. If one catches cold, he should take lemon juice in Luke warm water to prevent its aggravation. It will keep his bow is clean. Enema should be taken regularly. One should also lie down for an hour with a dry bandage round the chest or wrapped up to the head in a blanket. It would be better to take a glass of warm water before going to sleep. After taking Luke warm water up to the calves or lie wrapped up in a blanket. One can also lie down in bright sunshine for half an hour without any clothes.


Cough: Water kept in red bottle and exposed to rays of the sun should be taken a couple times every day. Lukewarm water should be used for bath. One should rub the body, back, chest and the sides with a dry towel thoroughly till the skin becomes red. If one is unable to apply the required pressure, help should be taken from someone else. This gives a lot of relief in all types of cough. If it is not possible to bath, then rub the body with a wet or dry towel. Enema of lemon water is also very beneficial.


Headache: It is treatment is also more or less the same as of cold. One should not lie in the sun or wrap himself in a blanket. Enema has to be taken in the morning.
Meningitis: For treating meningitis, it is incumbent to keep hot and then cold puttee on the spinal cord twice a day. The head is wrapped in a cold puttee. This is helpful in reducing the swelling and the disease is controlled. One can then sleep. A towel soaked in ice cold water can also be used. Before giving this treatment, the patient is asked to keep his legs in hot water. This legs are kept in hot water for twenty minutes. Later, the entire body is covered and one is treated to hot and cold water alternately. 

The legs are also wrapped up, but the bandages are removed as soon as perspiration starts. This body of the patient is first massaged with a cold puttee, then his body is wiped with a cloth soaked in hot water. A bottle of hot water is kept under the feet of the patient at the time of massage with the cold puttee. The patient then sleeps peacefully. In the morning the same procedure is repeated after an enema of lemon water. The massage is not dune for more than twenty minutes. It is advisable to take the opinion of an experienced person, if there are symptoms of some other disease.

Gastric Fever and Rheumatism: Enema should be given in the morning with warm water to which lemon juice has been added. After ablutions the legs should be immersed in hot water. The water should be as hot as the patient can tolerate. After this hot leg-bath, the entire body should be wrapped up in blanket. Perspiration should be wiped off with a dry towel. During all this treatment, the head should be covered with a wet cloth. This should continue till the fever does not come down. In rheumatism, hot steam bath is given followed by bath. 

Decision regarding the above should be taken after studying the position of the disease thoroughly. The body of the patient suffering from rheumatism should be first massaged by warm water followed by cold water. Then the body should be rubbed with a dry cloth till the skin becomes red. Cloth wetted with warm water should be a kept on joints for five minutes, followed by puttee of cold water for one minute. Care should be taken that the cloth is squeezed of water. Then the joints should be rubbed dry with pressure. This treatment should be repeated three times a day. After the patient is cured, he is advised to take exercises and also walk in the morning. Cold weather should be avoided.


Bronchitis: Hot, cold and dry massage which is enumerated above, is very beneficial in diseases of the lungs. For keeping the bowels clean, enema of warm water with lemon juice should be given. Warm water to which lemon juice has been added should be taken a couple of times in the day. After ablutions, the legs are immersed in hot water for twenty minutes. The chest should be fomented with a bottle of hot water for another ten minutes. If the patient has fever, wet cloth should be kept on his head to bring down the fever. This treatment should be done twice every day. The patient should be kept away from cold wind.

If the patient has fever, then his head should be washed with water and then wiped dry. This body is sponged by a wet cloth from which water has been thoroughly squeezed out. This treatment has been found to be a miraculous cure for bronchitis. If the physician is guided by some experienced expert, the treatment is all the more successful.
